danish composer the swan and the lake is at it again with his trademark widescreen soundscapes wrapped around eight new tracks of exquisite scandinavian balearica. with the release of his first album -moments- last year on copenhagen�s music for dreams, we were introduced to a unique artistic vision. with one foot in the ambient chill out spectrum and the other in everything from classical avantgarde, idm and jazz, the music of emil svane breum under his alias the swan and the lake is both very accessible yet complex. on his new album -clouds- we see him expand on those same ideas and with seemingly simple means achieve extraordinary strong emotions. opening side a, the jazzy intro of -fresh food- leads us into a sublime piece of hazy ambient groover that could easily be mistaken for a lost 80s production from japan. -clouds over Østerbro- keeps things playfully cool and adds elements of scat singing and xylophones, layered over breum�s shimmering bright chords. while the title suggests we are still on danish soil, this feels like a five minute vacation to a tropical paradise. guitarist johan liepstack makes a guest appearance on -summer in december- which comes off as an understated anthem that could break out into euphoria at any second, but manages to stay in a sombre state all the way through. on the track -plastic pacific ocean remake- we are visited once more by airy vangelis-like vocals which assume the role of a nurturing angel, guiding us to a comforting state of relaxation and healing, as breum lays down an overwhelmingly beautiful synth serenade with chords that hit you right at the core of your most vulnerable state. flip over for the mallorca inspired track -port d andratx- which comes in two versions - part 1 (sun) shines like a perfect escape into that cafe del mar/ hostal la torre sunset while the more deep and melancholic part 2 is aptly named rain. the gentle trickling of -waterfalls- sees breum mimic the eternal cycle of water, creating an organic and ethereal composition that stretches out seemingly without beginning or end. and finally on -heaven�s voice- we see breum in his most epic and emotional mood, as he steers us through a slow explosive force of cinematic sounds. it all ends with a heartfelt spoken word contribution by guest vocalist neonbi.

casino shanghai was a -techno-pop- band started in the mid-80s in mexico city. they released their debut and only album -film- in december of 1985. an album considered today as cult status. casino shanghai were part of a great cultural change in mexico and its music scene. the band made various controversial appearances on tv when a band without a drummer or guitarist was unheard of. all members had been in different notorious bands in the local scene. ulalume was the lead singer of the casuals (punk-new wave) and denseundergrowth (avant-garde). carlos robledo and walter schmidt were part of size (post-punk) and have been playing together for many years in decibel (experimental). humberto alvarez played with mcc (prog rock) and is currently a well-known musician and multi-instrumentist. before the band split-up they recorded two last songs in 1986, -le tombeau d edgar poe- and -l action minimal-, as part of an unreleased solo ep for ulalume. these tracks were edited in 2014 on 12&#8243,,, by mannequin records together with a remix by in aeternam vale. the music of casino shanghai was also used for the soundtrack of some mexican films. -crónicas de familia- directed by diego lópez and nominated for the ariel award for best original soundtrack in 1986, and -juana la cantinera- directed by josé loza. -film- has been restored and remastered for this new edition including all original tracks plus two bonus: -le tombeau d edgar poe (haunted version)- and -cuerpos huecos- (spanish version of -hollow bodies- available only on a promotional 7&#8243,,,). limited to 350 copies on white vinyl with a new artwork and printed inner sleeve with photos and song lyrics.

south london ordnance debuts on parachute. the british producer marks his first release of 2017 with parallel window, a four track ep featuring three wrought-iron originals and remix from token & blueprint affiliate, sigha. driven and direct, the music marries rolling low end with high energy drum machine percussion and wide angle highs - for the most part eschewing anxious, heads-down austerity in favour of a more uplifting, trancelike approach - spread across multiple bpms. despite the heady, crushed finish - shifts in tone are subtle, developing over prolonged periods, with careful modulation drawing sounds in and out of the sonic hinterland sporadically to create a comfortable atmospheric balance between peak-time dance-floor urgency and hazy mid-set moments. on his remix, sigha hones in on this sentiment - lifting the caustic lead bassline from parallel window and augmenting it with trademark cavernous low end, skittering highs & a rolling lead arp to create a hypnotic, half-time dirge.

catherine and gerald o-connell s work as lives of angels quietly and subtly helped to define a whole generation of post-punkers for the greater part of the 1980s. much like other luminaries of the scene at the time, the couple have remained in the shadows of time, highly praised by the collectors but barely ever cited by the mainstream, and if that s not punk then we don t know what is. dark entries are doing the honours of course, and the imprint have managed to license a whole bag of previously released and unreleased material, the former from a bunch of dusty cassettes which are now going for gold on the second-hand market. this was the era of the drum machine, and these 11 tunes are all carried by that unmistakable analogue swing, at times harsh and leaning into something tech-minded, and at other times playful and quirky, a tendency which defined this outfit and the time in which they operated. what a record, this is another dark entries monster

gidge is a production duo consisting of jonatan nilsson and ludvig stolterman. based in the northern parts of sweden, gidge quickly built a solid fan base with releases of their albums autumn bells, lnlnn and lulin. the music of gidge seems to affect their audience in an emotional way, which eventually resulted in the duo taking the top spot as best new artist at xlr8rs readers poll, as well as having the 3lps ending up on numerous end of year lists. their main source of inspiration is the vast, snow-covered woodlands of the north. gidge have for instance recorded all of their percussions in the forest, using only the sticks and rocks that can be found there. for seoul though came about after the duo went on a trip through asia, and spent a number of days in the south korean capital. they fell in love with seoul, and later on created this two-part hymn for the giant city. applescal created a remix for the track, which you can listen on the b side.

the album attains a unique harmony while drawing from a myriad of beliefs and practices. syncretism appears not only in the name but in the artwork and the music itself. the independent tonal passages draw on aspects of varied genres while creating a remarkably coherent yet homogeneous work. lvis mejía explores in his second album, topics of the christian religion and the history of man. deftly placed style and tempo contrasts express the various antagonisms found in this discourse. with the use of contemporary music in combination with hints of jazz, mejía designs spherical soundscapes, therefore allowing for musical deformations, hence the title aforma. the result is an experience that evokes abstract musical impressions. a reference to christianity is also embedded in the track order as the first piece patefactio opens the musical event much like a christian mass. the travel proceeds through the lurking clerical chants of aeternus-the final trial, whilst the bells are then calling us to mass with the track in dissonata apocalypse and continuing with the ontological concept of belief in in ghost we trust. everything comes full circle with the history of homo errata as a conglomerate of human errors. this final piece serves also as a link to the second part of the album anthropology of amnesia a musical description of repression and forgetting as a condition of life, which has emerged as a theme of human existence since the beginning of recorded history. with this opening piece artist and musician lvis mejía has created a magical musical experience, leaving us eager for its sequel.

bringing his signature sound to crosstown rebels, delightfully unconventional producer sis delivers his third release on the label, the blind side. hot on the heels of his boabab album on mobilee, rodriguez jr. delivers a stunning remix on the b-side. the blind side is set to soundtrack the summer, an incredibly infectious track with its exotic and intricate drum workouts and alluring vocal cuts. on the flip, rodriguez jr. brings in deep pads, uplifting melodic keys and a storming piano lines for a whole new take on the original. taking his artistic enthusiasm from his turkish father, sis grew up in berlin surrounded by music. following a series of releases on nick curly�s cecille, ricardo villalobos who loved his track trompeta so much that he released it on his boutique label picked up the german producer sei es drum in 2008. his success of trompeta led to an avalanche of recognition, groove magazine and �newcomer of the year� by raveline mag named him both �producer of the year�. in 2011 sis launched his own label cocolino where he released his debut three-part album dejame. olivier mateu aka rodriguez jr. grew up in the south of france and moved to paris as a young adult and soon formed the electro group the youngsters. signed by laurent garnier to f communications, the duo released two albums and a string of successful singles. focusing on a different alias, rodriguez jr. gave olivier the freedom to run with his creativity, which can be seen in his acclaimed live shows.

r.o.s.h. returns with two anthemic uk-leaning 4/4 productions. following last year�s debut release on bristol�s drumz for eternity label, herts based r.o.s.h. broadens his release schedule via two tracks that establish a common thread of unique top end melodies coupled with swinging, uk funky indebted percussion and pure peak time atmospherics. �winona�s love (stranger things mix)� launches with an audacious mixture of circling john carpenter synths and rolling �09 era uk funky percussion coming across as one part london legend apple to two parts prime eighties repo man. honed berlin kick drums and low swung bass hits combine to create a constantly driving concoction of ceiling banging techno all tied together with the distinctive infectious synth work that�s fast becoming a r.o.s.h. staple. creating a fully fledged dance floor homage to netflix s most popular sleep competitor is the young producer�s raison d�etre across this release. �amg (a45 mix)� goes in for the kill with rattling percussive stabs and tweaked woodblock snares winding up the drama before the rumbling techno breakout at the one minute mark. it s a return to the rude form of uk funky s heyday, with colossal amounts of sub and every element driven to a singular purpose, to move bodies in the dance.

dement3d is proud to welcome valentino mora on board, and share with you a part of his spiritual journey. slow hyper-controlled motion has been inspired by butoh moves, but also is a homage to early new york spiritual house. in creating this record he also took field recordings in the forests of japan. the concept of slow hyper-controlled motion is to recreate this 90 s spiritual house vibe, but in a more experimental way.
